Configure Microsoft Office Communicator for Web View

The NuPoint Unified Messaging Web View interface can also be accessed from Microsoft Office Communicator 2005.

The web server that is part of the NuPoint UM product will host the two new files that Microsoft Office Communicator retrieves for the Mitel tab – the TabURL.xml file and the icon file that is displayed in the tab.

No software needs to be installed on the Client PC that is running Microsoft Office Communicator in order to add the Mitel tab. However, the registry on the Client PC must be modified.

To enable tabs in Microsoft Office Communicator 2005, it is necessary to add a String registry key named
”TabURL” in the following location:

The value of the TabURL key is the URL to an XML file that defines the tabs that are displayed by Microsoft Office Communicator. The contents of the TabURL will be the same for all users on the same NuPoint Unified Messaging system. The TabURL provides a pointer to information regarding the icon file to be displayed and the URL to launch the login page. All user data is then contained in the browser cache of the individual client PC.

A web page is made part of the existing NuPoint Unified Messaging web user interface that provides step-by-step instructions for downloading a registry-update file (.reg), executing the downloaded file, validating the installation, and any troubleshooting information.

The URL of the webpage is ”http://x.y.com/npm-commtab/” with the ”x.y.com” replaced with the FQDN of the specific NuPoint Unified Messaging server (this address is different for every installation).

To configure Microsoft Office Communicator:

1. Back up the existing registry.

2. Open the web page that contains the registry update file (.reg).

Note: Contact your System Administrator for this information.

3. Download the .reg file to your desktop.

4. Run the file by double-clicking it. This will update the Windows registry.

Note: Using this file to enable Microsoft Office Communicator tabs will remove any currently configured tabs. To have other tabs coexist with the NuPoint Messaging tab, a manual configuration of the NuPoint Unified Messaging server is required. Contact your System Administrator for assistance.

5. Restart Microsoft Office Communicator 2005. A new Mitel tab will appear in the bottom left-hand corner. This tab can now be used to access the NuPoint Unified Messaging Web View interface.
