Country codes

Here you can assign the national prefixes to the country codes in canonical format.

Internal users can dial external call numbers directly in a standard canonical format. The communication server standardises the canonical phone number and, besides the additional characters and spaces, also removes the national prefix, if listed here.

Canonical call numbers

Canonical call numbers start with a “+” followed by the country code (e.g. 41), the national destination code (e.g. 32) and the local phone number (e.g. 655 55 55). The national prefix (e.g. 0) is often included so a user can also use the call number within the country itself. The characters “-”, “/”, “(“, “)” and “space” are also often used to make the number easier to read.

Examples of call numbers in canonical format:

  • +41326555555

  • +41 (0) 32 655 55 55

  • +41 (032) 655 55 55

  • +41-32 / 655 55 55

The main country codes with the relevant national prefixes are already entered as defaults. They are used by the communication server to filter out any national destination code that may be contained in the case of numbers in canonical format. Superfluous characters are removed at the same time so that the number +41326555555 results from all the examples listed above. This method is applied for both outgoing calls from phone book directories and for incoming international calls.
