File browser
With the file browser you have access to the communication server file system and create new folders as well as view, import, replace or delete files in the file system.
Using the file browser
The file browser is similarly structured as a Windows Explorer:
On the left side are the two main areas /home/ and /ram/. Statistical data are stored in the RAM area while all communication server folders and files are placed in the home directory.
If not yet visible, click /home/ and see the entire directory structure, arranged in alphabetical order.
Clicking the individual folders opens them and shows the sub-folders, if available.
Clicking a folder name displays the content of the folder on the right side. Files and other sub-folders are listed in alphabetical order.
Creating new folder
Left-click in the directory structure on the name of the folder in which you wish to add a new folder or enter the path manually in the field under Create new folder.
Enter the name of the new folder at the end of the path you want in the field, under Create new folder.
Press Enter to confirm.
A message appears, showing that the operation has been successfully completed.
To display the new folder, you must refresh the browser page.
It is necessary only in rare cases to create a folder manually.
Deleting or renaming a folder
Deleting a folder:
A folder can only be deleted if it is empty. Once you click on an empty folder, the Delete empty folder button appears, with which you can execute the action.
Renaming a folder:
A folder cannot be renamed. You can only delete the folder and create a new one.
Importing a file:
Left-click in the directory structure on the name of the folder in which you wish to import a file.
Click Import file, choose the file to be imported and confirm with OK.
A message appears, showing that the operation has been successfully completed.
Now you see the file in the folder you want, but without further information. To see the File size as well as the Date and time, you must refresh the browser page.
- Date and time of imported file corresponds to the system date/system time when the the file was imported and is thus not identical with the original file.
- It is necessary only in rare cases to import a file manually. Use rather the functions in the Maintenance / File management / File upload view. The advantage is that the files are automatically loaded into the right folder, and consistency checks performed.
Opening, editing and deleting files
Opening files:
Click on the name of a file to display it. The file is either opened directly in the browser or in an application, or you can store it on your PC. After that, you can open the file with an appropriate application.
Editing files:
Files cannot be edited directly. You can only open the file, store it on the PC and then import it again with the same name. In so doing, the older file is overwritten and replaced with the new one.
Deleting files:
Click the recycle bin icon on the left side close to the file and confirm the deletion with OK.
Be extremely careful while replacing or deleting files. The absence of files can hamper or even render impossible the working of the communication server.
