Direct and SMS Messages

In the Teamwork app, you can send a direct message (IM) to anyone in your organization’s MiCloud Connect phone system who has a supported phone profile. A direct message can be sent to multiple contacts.

If you have the Connect SMS service, you can also send an SMS message to a 10-digit phone number in the United States or Canada. An SMS message can be sent to only one phone number. To learn more, see SMS Requirements and Limitations.

Note: After you send a message, it cannot be edited or deleted, and participants cannot be added or removed.

View Existing Messages

The Messages icon at the bottom of the app provides access to your direct and SMS messages. The most recent messages are displayed at the top of the Messages screen. Personal 1:1 messages are listed by the first name of the contact and group messages are listed by the first names of up to three contacts. To view all contacts for a group message, tap the desired message and tap the icon to the right of the names at the top of the screen. To find a specific message, from the Messages screen, tap at the top of the screen and search for the desired contact name or phone number.

When you have unread messages, an orange circle appears on the Messages screen to the right of the contact name(s) to indicate the number of new messages. Additionally, an orange dot appears to the right of the Messages icon at the bottom of the app. When viewing an existing conversation, all messages received from others are displayed on a white background, all direct messages sent by you are displayed on a light blue background, and all SMS messages sent by you are displayed on a light green background.

Message Typing Indicators

When you are typing text in the "Type a message" area, your name followed by "is typing" appears on the message screen for each of the contacts who will be receiving your message. When a contact is typing text to send you a message, you will see that person's name followed by "is typing" on the message page. If you are chatting with multiple contacts who are typing simultaneously, the typing indicator shows the first name of up to three contacts.

Search a Message Conversation

You can search for one or more complete words within a specific personal or group message conversation (not all messages). Note that there are no partial matches because this feature searches for only complete words in the selected message conversation.

  2. In the selected conversation, tap the search icon at the top of the screen, type one or more search words in the Search input area that appears, adjust your search words if needed, and tap the desired message. If many search results appear, scroll up and down through the results to locate the desired message.
  3. To end your search, tap Cancel to the right of the Search input area.

Allow Teamwork to Access Your Contacts

To send SMS messages to the personal contacts on your phone, you have to tap the OK or Allow option when you see a pop-up message asking you to allow Teamwork to access your contacts. If you choose the Don't Allow option, Teamwork will not be able to search your personal contacts. If this occurs and you want to change your selection, the next time you create a new message, when the person icon appears, tap the linked settings text below to open the Teamwork > Settings area on your mobile phone, and make sure the Contacts setting is turned on for Teamwork.

Use Siri to Access Messages

When using Teamwork on an iPhone, you can use Siri to send or read messages. This requires an internet connection, a sign in to Teamwork, and when prompted, allow Siri to access Teamwork data. For example, you can say:

After reading a message to you, Siri automatically asks if you want to reply and then guides you through the process.
