Use this procedure to facilitate upgrade from a pre-9.0 MiVoice Business software version to MiVoice Business Release 9.1 using a brand-new factory drive with a pre-installed MiVoice Business Release 9.1 or later software for the same platform type as your system; the factory drive must be brand-new (not used before) for the Migration Tool to be able to perform the required steps.
The Migration Tool offers the auxiliary option to migrate system's bootloader only, that is to upgrade the bootloader from Bootrom to U-Boot. This option does not affect the storage device content. This option is useful for MXe III, MXe III-L and CX(i) II systems if you have a used storage device with pre-installed MiVoice Business Release 9.1 or later and you want to boot the system with it, but your system features Bootrom as the bootloader. The Bootloader migration only option is also useful if you want to prepare your spare systems to be able to boot MiVoice Business Release 9.1 or later.
The prerequisite for both options is that the system to be migrated must be running a pre-9.0 MiVoice Business software version; this allows the Migration Tool to connect to the system and initiate the migration.
NOTE: If you have a 3300 ICP controller without its storage device, but have a storage device with MiVoice Business 9.1 or later software that you want to run on this controller, you cannot use the Migration Tool. To determine how to proceed in this case, see Appendix H: Configuration of Brand-New/Used Controllers and Storage Devices in the MiVoice Business Technician's Handbook.
Performing a migration with media replacement supports two sub-operations:
Migration: Use this sub-operation in the following scenarios:
when you have a supported storage device with the required MiVoice Business 9.1 or later software version readily available.
when your controller does not meet the minimum requirements of the HDD/SSD/CF.
After the Migration Tool completes the migration of the bootloader, the Tool instructs you to manually replace the current storage device with the supported storage drive containing MiVoice Business Release 9.1 or later software. After replacing the drive, the tool proceeds with licensing the system and restoring the database.
For the AX Controller, after the Bootloader migration, you must replace the 2 GB CF (System CF) with a 16 GB CF pre-loaded with the MiVoice Business 9.1 or later software, and remove the 4 GB CF (Voicemail CF) from the Compact Flash 1 slot. After replacing the drive, the tool proceeds with licensing the system and restoring the database.
Bootloader migration only: Use this sub-operation if you want the tool to perform only bootloader migration. The sub-operation has the following options:
Use current network configuration - Configures the new bootloader with the system's current networking configuration. This option is useful when you have a supported, used drive with pre-installed MiVoice Business 9.1 (see Ch.6 > Disk Drives (CX II/CXi II/MXe III/MXe III-L) in the MiVoice Business Technician's Handbook).
Reset to factory configuration - Configures the new bootloader with the default factory networking configuration. This option is useful for MXe III, MXe III-L and CX II systems if you want to create a spare system to be able to boot MiVoice Business Release 9.0 or later.
IMPORTANT: You must run the pre-migration audit for all MiVoice Business systems before migration to ensure your database is compatible with MiVoice Business Release 9.0 or later. An attempt to restore an incompatible database will result in a default database.
The following platforms are supported for the migration:
AX
CX II
CXi II
MXe III
Before you begin the migration:
Note that during the migration, your system will be out-of-service. Unless you have a resilient system, there will be a service downtime.
Ensure to safely store the drive you are replacing to facilitate reverse migration if necessary. For more information, see Reverse Migration in the MiVoice Business Migration Guidelines document.
Ensure that the MiVoice Business system release is Mitel Communications Director (MCD) 6.0 SP3 or later.
Ensure that there is a LAN connection between the PC and the MiVoice Business system to be migrated.
Ensure that you have configured the networking requirements on the PC running the MiVoice Business Migration Tool to connect to the Mitel Application Management Center (AMC) for License and Options configuration. For details, see the Technician's Handbook document.
Ensure that you have the IP address of the MiVoice Business system.
Ensure that you have the login ID and password of the MiVoice Business system.
For CX II and CXi II controllers with 16 GB HDD, ensure that the voice mail size in the compatible database does not exceed 864 MB. If the voice mail size exceeds 864 MB, then delete the voice mail messages from /vmail/d/vm/grp and /vmail/d/vm/msg directories such the total voice mail size is less than 864 MB.
Ensure that the information in the License and Option Selection form is accurate.
CAUTION: If the information in the License and Option Selection form is not accurate, the MiVoice Business Migration Tool may recommend inaccurate system licenses, which might result in devices not being restored after the migration.
Ensure that there are no Bootrom, DSPII, FPGA, and MSP430 alarms on the MiVoice Business system (applies to only 3300 ICP controllers) to be migrated. For details on how to clear an alarm, see Alarms Reference in the MiVoice Business System Administration Tool Help.
Ensure that the Host Name field in the System IP Properties form is not blank and has a valid entry.
For an AX controller, ensure that you a replacement 16 GB CF pre-loaded with MiVoice Business 9.1 or a later software.
You can procure a new replacement 16 GB CF pre-loaded with MiVoice Business 9.1 or a later software from Mitel (refer to Appendix E: FRU Parts Numbers in the Technician's Handbook for part number).
You can reuse a previously migrated 16 GB CF. Ensure that you know the login credentials of the root user, Server Manager and System Administration Tool.
For an AX controller, ensure to back up voice mail messages stored in the /vmail/d/vm/msg and /vmail/d/vm/grp directory on the MiVoice Business system. You can FTP the voice mail messages to your PC.
For CX II, CXi II, and MXe III controllers, ensure that you have a replacement HDD (refer to the Technician's Handbook for part number) with MiVoice Business 9.1 or a later software (refer to Appendix E: FRU Parts Numbers in the Technician's Handbook for part number).
Record the bootline parameters in case you are required to reverse migrate.
Ensure that the 3300 ICP controller meets the following minimum hardware requirements:
Platform |
Drive |
RAM |
AX |
16 GB CF |
512 MB |
CX II and CXi II |
16 GB |
1 GB |
MXe III (both RTC and E2T cards) |
60 GB |
1 GB |
Ensure that you have downloaded the software image zip file corresponding to the software on the replacement HDD/CF (For example, MiVB_ppc_image_9.1.x.x.zip) from the Software Download Center page on Mitel MIACCESS and have set up the repository.
