Web feeds are formats used to deliver information that is frequently updated such as News and weather reports. Your Mitel SIP Phone can act as a web feed reader, displaying the feed on Line 1 of the phone display when the phone is idle. You can use Branding to display your own customized message.
Notes:
RSS feeds are dependent upon Internet connectivity. Due to the nature of the Internet, there are times when the feed may be interrupted or when the main feed source will change. Not all RSS feeds are compatible with Mitel SIP phones.
HTTP feeds require a provisioned HTTP server.
Branding is not network-dependent and requires only a string message configuration.
Due to the one-line display format, longer messages are scrolled. You can use the Cancel key to pause/restart the feed.
You can disable other status line messages, like Missed Calls and Call Forwarding, using Display Control settings on the Feature Configuration page.
There are two methods for configuring RSS/HTTP/Branding:
Use the Advanced Features Page to enter a global URL or customized message in the RSS_Feed URL/Branding/Notes field (Administrator only).
Use the Key Programming Page to program one or more feature keys using the RSS Feed list. Enabling a programmed key overrides any global feed set by your Administrator for your phone.
Support for the RSS format is limited to RSS feeds that provide plain text <title> data items. Multiple <title> messages within a feed page are also supported. Deferred links, media, and images are not supported.
An example of an RSS URL entry is http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories
You can use an HTTP server to broadcast HTML messages. The HTTP Feed feature supports simple HTML pages that provide a <title> tag for the broadcast message.
An example HTTP Feed entry is: http://192.168.1.100/example.html
Branding messages are supported for Global configuration and for Key Programming. Maximum text entry is 126 characters, including spaces, and must be enclosed in single quotation marks.
An example of a branding message entry is 'Mitel - It's About You'.
The "Getting Data" message indicates that the phone is in the process of requesting a feed message from a remote server. If the server does not respond, or network connectivity limits access, then the "Getting Data" message persists until the server is accessed. If the server returns a "Page Not Found" error, then the phone displays "Not Found".
