Modify blueprint fields

In general, you cannot modify blueprints, except superficially. Blueprints describe the initial configuration of existing and future instances. Instead, use the blueprint cloning feature to make a copy of the blueprint, and edit the new blueprint before creating future instances.
You can modify the following fields on any blueprint at any time.

  • Platform Blueprint Name

  • Description

  • Deprecate (remove from active use)

You may edit a blueprint through a combination of clone and deprecate. To modify a blueprint, you can clone to a new blueprint then deprecate the old. With this technique, you can modify or add features to a service offering blueprint without compromising existing installations.

Clone a blueprint

Create a new blueprint that is an exact copy of an existing one.

Change the name of the new blueprint. By default, the name is "Copy of <original blueprint name>".

You can use the Clone function to modify an existing blueprint. Clone the blueprint that you would like to change, make the changes, and then proceed to make future builds with the new blueprint. To stop using the old blueprint you may deprecate it.

Deprecate a blueprint

You can deprecate a blueprint to prevent it from being used to create any newer Platform Instances. Instances that have already been created with a deprecated blueprint continues to run and have full Platform Manager functionality, including Start, Stop, Delete, Backup, and Restore.

To deprecate a platform blueprint:

  • Click the Edit icon, and select Deprecate this blueprint.

At this time, deprecation of Resource Blueprints is not supported.
